  • OR/PACU RN providing direct patient care, with a rotational call system for weekends, holidays and once or twice a week after hours.
  • Providing and presenting education for the perioperative department to include mock codes, MTP drills, lipid rescue training, and difficult airway management training.
  • Partnering with regional education providers to plan and present Focused Annual Interdepartmental Regulatory Education-FAIRE, annual competencies, and skills practice sessions for all hospital departments.

Nurse Manager

  • I was approached and persuaded, by several physicians from Enumclaw Regional Hospital, to manage a community surgery center that had opened.
  • During this time I was responsible for making pre-op and post-op calls and patient scheduling. Additionally I was responsible for supply management; ordering, communicating with vendors and company representatives, to assure that we had the equipment and/or supplies needed.
  • My nursing duties included admitted patients. starting IV's, OR circulating in the room, assisting with the sterilization and cleaning of the instruments, laundry of the linens and patient gowns, and recovering and discharging patients.
  • We worked long days, but no call on weekends or holidays was a balancing positive. In the end, the physicians sold the center to Franciscan Health Systems.

  • Initially part time per diem at St Joseph's Hospital in the Main High Acuity Phase 1 PACU. Transitioned to fulltime position for better wages, better hours and less need for as much call on evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Duties included caring for ICU vented patients, SWANs, and arterial lines.
  • Member of the PACU Code and Trauma team.

Enumclaw Regional Community Hospital, Enumclaw

  • Initially per diem on the Med/Surg Unit then offered a fulltime position in PACU by Peggy Jennings, Periop Manager.
  • Professional duties included partnering with anesthesia providers and surgeons in the care and delivery of all the post operative patients in PACU, and float assist in ED, GI, ICU and Med/Surg.
  • Non nursing responsibilities included, scheduling OR cases, basic phone skills, point of use instrument care and preparation for sterilization.

  • Transition from student nurse on the Oncology Unit to Group Health in Tacoma.
  • Evening Charge RN, on an acute 36 bed PCU Med/Surg ward.
  • Responsibilities included direct patient care, patient care assignments, providing breaks and lunches to fellow nurses, handling patient and families complaints, and working closely with a variety of physicians to assure care plans were adopted.
  • Code Team member and trainer.
  • Unfortunately, Group Health closed the floor at Tacoma General prompting a transition to ER/Urgent care, doing triage and consulting for Group Health.

  • Duties included triage all the patients, assisted the physicians with patient assessments, radiologic exams, drawing labs, performing 12 lead EKGs, assist with the casting or wound dressings, and administering medications.
