Sandra Kelly

Primarly transition nursery nurse specializing in the stabilizion, resuscitation and transition care of the newborn infant in labor and delivery. Also practices in the role of labor and delivery nurse when needed by laboring patients, circulating vaginal and cesarean section deliveries, assisting with anesthesia, and recovery of mom and newborn. Serves as a preceptor for new nurses, travel nurses, and nursing students.

Worked as a labor and delivery travel nurse to supplement staffing needs at a teaching hospital with predominantly Spanish speaking population. Worked frequently in the OR as a scrub nurse assisting caesarian section deliveries as well as tubal ligations.

Worked as a travel nurse at a hospital with high volume of deliveries. Floated frequently to antepartum and post partum units when needed.

Worked as L&D RN at UTMB with Brackenridge Hospital for 8wk travel assignment.

Worked as travel nurse in L&D. Floated to postpartum unit when needed.

Worked as staff nurse on busy labor and delivery unit. Responsibilities included care of mother and newborn. Served as preceptor for new nurses. Circulated and scrubbed in on cesarean section deliveries as well as recovered patients in PACU post surgery.

Worked on L&D unit for two travel nurse assignments, then signed on as full time staff RN.

Worked my first travel nurse assignment in Washington, D.C. Was able to work with patients of many different cultural backgrounds and expand my knowledge of cultural sensitivity in healthcare.

Started in the internship program as a new graduate nurse in Labor and Delivery. Responsibilities included 1:1 care of high risk OB patients as labor and charge nurse, care of newborn, and pospartum recovery. Frequently assisted MD and residents in the OR as surgical assistant. Served as preceptor to new graduates.

Worked 15-25 hours a week while attending nursing school full time. Gained experience with patient care on a general med/surg floor. Assisted RNS with workload of 8-10 patients.
