National Alliance on Mental Illness: Eastside, Redmond, WA - Youth Ambassador

JULY 2021-JUNE 2024

NAMI is a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for those impacted by mental health conditions through advocacy, education, and support. As a Youth Ambassador, I spoke about mental health at many conferences from the youth perspective, while promoting mental health awareness throughout my community. As a member of this organization, I had the privilege of learning from and speaking to psychologists, counselors, a psychiatrist, and individuals who shared their first-hand experiences.

Cura Project, Seattle, WA - Camp Cura Member JUNE 2021 - NOVEMBER 2022

The Cura Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a platform where our generation can take the initiative to learn about ongoing health conditions. It focuses on educating about the various avenues in healthcare.

I attended Camp Cura in the summer, where I was given the opportunity to shadow doctors in four specialties for 4 hours each: OBGYN, Pediatrics, Neurology, and Psychology. Speaking to these medical professionals helped me further understand the plethora of ways to be involved in the healthcare field. This camp further confirmed my interest in being involved in healthcare through nursing.

Fieldstone Memory Care, Issaquah, WA - Activities Leader

Fieldstone is an assisted living facility primarily for seniors dealing with dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. Through a customized care plan with constant assistance and stimulating activities, they create a safe and supportive environment.

As a volunteer here, I would interact with elderly patients in a variety of ways. I would occasionally lead bingo nights, but mostly I made puzzles with them or had conversations. A lot of them could not remember that they had children, so a lot of my responsibility was to remind them about their families and converse to get to know them better.
