Clinical Laboratory Rotation, June 2021-January 2024

• As part of my degree requirements, I completed clinical rotations at Mount Lebanon Hospital and Saint George University Hospital, two of Lebanon's prestigious medical institutions. During these rotations, I gained comprehensive hands-on experience across multiple laboratory sections, honing both practical skills and theoretical knowledge in clinical diagnostics. Due to space constraints, I’ve highlighted key training areas below. My experience also included training in clinical chemistry, hematology, and immunology, which further broadened my laboratory expertise and provided a well-rounded foundation in clinical laboratory sciences.

Blood Bank, June 2021

• Gained hands-on experience in blood bank procedures, including blood typing, cross-matching, and component preparation.
• Assessed donor eligibility by using the Donor History Questionnaire (DHQ) to collect information regarding travel history, medication use, high-risk behaviors, and sexual activity.
• Started the centrifugation process for blood samples, and performed serology testing on donor serum using the Architect system.
• Contributed to ensuring the safe and effective collection of blood and blood products for patient use.

Pathology, July 2021

• Assisted in processing laboratory specimens, including tissue samples, and body fluids.
• Contributed to the preparation and examination of histopathology slides for accurate diagnoses.
• Received individual supervision by a resident doctor, and wrote medical notes, reviewing them with the resident for accuracy.
• Successfully passed an oral test demonstrating my understanding of the training, achieving a perfect score.
• Observed residents dissect organs, and assisted in recording measurements during dissections.

Bacteriology, June 2022

• Applied streaking methods to various specimens on different types of agar media for bacterial isolation.
• Identified bacterial species based on growth patterns, colony morphology, and biochemical tests.
• Conducted investigations on both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, performing appropriate tests for identification.
• Examined fungal specimens under the microscope, and conducted fungal culture investigations.
• Performed antimicrobial susceptibility testing to determine bacterial resistance profiles.
• Prepared microscope slides, performed Gram staining, and analyzed slides for bacterial morphology.

Parasitology, September 2023

• Performed a microscopic examination of stool specimens to identify parasitic organisms.
• Conducted urinalysis, including the examination of casts and crystals under the microscope.
• Measured and recorded the quantity of red and white blood cells in various samples.
• Assisted in semen analysis, identifying key characteristics under the microscope.
• Successfully passed an oral examination with a perfect score, demonstrating a thorough understanding of parasitology concepts.
