I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Integrated Science. I started taking course for my English as a second Language minor and plan to finish it after I graduate. My number one as a teacher is to help students become independent thinkers and create a positive learning environment.
During my job as a substitute teacher, I followed classroom plans left by class teacher to continue student education and reinforce core concepts. I upheld classroom routines to support student environments and maintain consistent schedules. Based on my excellent record, schools are always requested me and especially by teachers who trusted me according to my excellent past referrals and trusted performance. I always kept students on-task with proactive behavior modification and positive reinforcement strategies.
I worked with ELL kindergarten students who have been in the united states for less than a year. Being bilingual help with the communication with students. I followed classroom policies, regulations, dress codes and schedules. I helped the classroom teacher with other struggling students and make sure to differentiate instructions based on ELL students needs.
For a whole semester, I worked with students from Detroit Public Schools. In the RIF program, I read to students ranging from ages 3-10. I read and discussed culturally relevant books and completed interactive activities with students. In the BookNook Program, I worked with a third grade student. The student was a struggling reader, so I worked on phonics and comprehension with him.
I worked with preschool students and I assist the classroom teacher in managing the students during the whole group learning. I learn how to develop new methods and strategies when teaching toddlers and demonstrate an understanding on how to interact with special needs students. I worked with ADHD student and help him to understand the daily schedule routine, classroom procedures and how to interact with other students.
I worked as a private tutor for almost 1 year. I work with a group of middle school aged students. I assisted students with homework using curriculum and materials provided by program. I taught study skills and other methods for test preparation. I determined concepts needing priority focus of tutorial sessions by reviewing and assessing student work, notes and discussions. I communicated with parents and teachers regarding student progress and areas of concern.
