Work History

Medical Laboratory Scientist

Bowling Green Medical Center
08.2024 - Current

Currently I work full time at the Bowling Green Medial center as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. As part of my job I complete analyses in the chemistry, hematology/coag, blood bank, urinalysis, and microbiology departments. I functioned as a back up plate reader for the urine cultures. When not needed as a plate reader I would rotate working in other departments as needed. On a typical day I am responsible for completing analyses, running quality controls, and performing as needed maintenance.

Phlebotomy Technician

Med Center Health
11.2021 - 08.2024
  • I worked in the processing area of the laboratory at the Bowling Green Medical Center. My duties included: receiving specimens into the laboratory's computer system, processing specimens, answering phone calls, and putting specimens out for recollection. An important part of my job was knowing the specimen requirements for each test. This gave me a solid basis of knowledge for my future career as a medical laboratory scientist while I was still completing my degree.
  • I feel that this position has given me valuable experience in the basics of laboratory operations and specimen requirements. It allowed me to start out my career as a medical laboratory science with an advantage. It allowed me to learn the basics of how a laboratory operated while I was also able to learn and connect with the medical laboratory scientists I worked with.

Medical Technologist Student

Owensboro Health Regional Hospital
07.2023 - 06.2024
  • As a student in the medical laboratory science program at Owensboro Health, I was offered to work PRN as a lab assistant. As a lab assistant, I performed simple kit tests, reported results, and distributed specimens to the proper location. Many of the techniques I learned while in this position were similar to what I now use as a medical laboratory scientist. I learned how to use several of the kit tests, operate the Arkray and Iris urinalysis instruments, and maintain an efficient workspace.
  • Through this job, I have gained further knowledge regarding laboratory testing. It was useful in gaining further insight into what my career as a medical laboratory scientist would be like. I also gained an appreciation for obtaining and reporting accurate results for patient care.
