I started with the Department of Corrections in July of 2018 a mother of two small children, with a passion for Criminal Justice I planned to use the opportunity for paid tuition through the Basic Recruit Academy to become a certified Correctional Officer and cross over to Law Enforcement. I wanted to provide with a job that offered growth for my self and benefits for my family. Soon after I started at Lancaster Correctional Institution I was sent to the Academy at Mayo C.I. there I was introduced to a different side of the department. The wealth of knowledge and experience the instructors offered changed my mind and I quickly learned that I could grow within this department, no cross over needed. After becoming certified as a Correctional Officer and working in Dormitories or as Internal Security, I was Control Room trained, I went on transports, I worked Hospital Duty, EID class, cell extraction, DART and I was even an acting Sergeant on occasion, I was introduced to many new experiences and I went to every training I was offered. I looked at each new experience as am opportunity to learn and grow. I transferred to Cross City Correctional Institution and Continued to learn, upon returning I was offered the Recruiter Position at Lancaster Correctional and having gained so much through working with the Department of Corrections it was easy for me to lay out all this career can Offer, I became an Instructor, I was able to go to a Basic Recruit Academy and teach a group of students brand new to the Department of Corrections , possibly have an impact on the outlook for career choices and the type of Officer that they will be. No career could be more rewarding to me.
