Summer Intern for Collegiate Internship Program

  • I interned as a Planner I position directly with the Appointed Commissioner while working in the Research Section in the Information Management Division of Socioeconomic and Demographic Planning
  • Responsible for working on a Hispanic/Latino Population Project and producing a report that would serve as a guidance for the office
  • This report required me to compile, research and analyze many forms of data that included several tables and charts regarding demographic pressure on the environment, ethnic and intercultural problems, immigration and migration, poverty, food shortages, housing, land use, urbanization and unemployment workforce challenges
  • After extensive analysis I was able to compile a very detailed report and provide valuable insights pertaining to the diverse populations’ needs and concerns
  • I was able to address inequalities experienced by these ethnic groups
  • Supervisor informed me the report was recommended to be used as a county publication and my name was credited for acknowledgements
  • Due to my contributions, I was highlighted and honored at the Intern Spotlight Ceremony

  • As an intern I had the opportunity to research market conditions related to the portfolios where I maintained and updated the Chinese export credit database
  • I received on the job training on how to monitor and prepare analytical reports on trends in EXIM policies that were subject to Congressional inquiry

  • I worked as a summer intern with the Upper Marlboro Town Hall under the supervision of Mayor Sarah Franklin and her staff
  • This internship provided me the privilege and opportunity to see how the county seat was managed and to experience the workings of local politics at an entry level
  • I worked and assisted with many community related projects and provided support services for the Mayor and Town Commissioners
  • The weekly rotations to different offices consisted of attending and observing board meetings and listening to discussions about fiscal budgets and planning tasks associated with community engagement events that promote local businesses and citizen’s concerns
  • As part of my requirements for full college credit I was able to accomplish these assigned tasks for the summer
  • Conducted an audit of the town’s website, I made improvements by ensuring that information was accessible, all links work, grammar/spelling is correct, contains relevant content
  • Helped to plan a Business Mixer/Meet & Greet for local businesses and property owners
  • Created half page flyer for distribution & email to businesses for networking event
  • Assisted with a planning analysis on a discussion regarding local parking issues in the town
