Capstone Experience - 100 hours, Labor and Delivery

- During my Capstone practicum experience, I worked 1 on 1 with a Labor and Delivery RN to provide care to patients during labor, as well as the immediate recovery period after delivery. We also had patients that needed monitoring, and I learned why and what to watch for on the TOCO and Fetal Heart Rate monitors, as well as the lab work for these patients. I learned more about the medications that are used during the labor process, as well as the medications that are used to slow or attempt to stop the labor process, and when and how to use clinical judgement to maintain safety for both mother and baby.
- I watched and assisted preparing mothers for Cesarean sections, as well as learned the nurse’s role during the procedure and after.

- I grew close with the family members, and would often help them process things when they did not understand their family members actions, as I was working with memory care patients.
