I am a certified EMT who is dual licensed. I chose this field due to my moms long battle with cancer. I was here primary caretaker and during this time I knew I always wanted to help others but I did not know where I belonged so I took a chance on becoming an EMT and through my time I have fallen in love. I get to meet these patients and hear the stories of their lives and form a connection, to me this job is more than just a paycheck this job to me is an important and fulfilling one. I get to meet new people, be a listening ear, be an advocate when they can not for themselves. I get to make someones day by just listening to the stories sometimes just being a hand they can hold and a refreshing smile. I got to be a provider and a friend at the same time and sometimes that meant watching peppa pig during the ride to the hospital because my patient was scared and needed something comforting. These are the days that I know I am in the right field.
During my time serving I truly enjoyed getting to know my customers and my coworkers. The thing I enjoyed most was making connections with my customers, I have this rule that a job is more than a job it becomes another home to me and everyone I meet I want them to feel as if we are family. I make sure I build connections, I get to hear stories that sometimes are sad and sometimes are happy, I remember one lady and her son who came in and sat in my section and she was upset, she was my last table so once they were done we all were talking turned out she was losing her husband to cancer. This broke my heart due to the personal connection I had with losing my mom and I got to be the shoulder they needed to cry on. I got to talk about my story and share grieving groups and great hospice programs. The point of this story was just a simple hour lunch I got to the person that made their day a little better and that is what I loved about my serving job. I got to know people personally in such a short time.
