  • Answer the telephone, which is the main line to the emergency room that has now taken on an increase in calls due to the loss of the operating system.
  • Answer the Hill-Rom room call lights, and direct patients' needs accordingly to staff.
  • If staffing is low, help assist patients to and from bathroom if able. Day shift IA do help with bed pans and bedside commodes do to being cross trained as medical technicians.
  • Distribute food and or drinks to patients who are not NPO or on diet restrictions.
  • Make sure the staff is properly supplied with working equipment, such as pulse oxygen cords. Blood pressure cuff and precordial leads. This is also includes various of other Emergency Room equipment that is not listed.
  • Manage the flow of work orders that need to go to maintenance, or biomedical technicians. This many times involves writing and following up with the departments with further information on the equipment needing to be fixed.
  • Receive daily calls from food services for all meals of the day and ensure that the food service staff knows when certain items are low on stock.
  • Assisting in the cleanliness of the ER Department, contacting housekeeping and/or maintenance for special room cleaning, floors to be mopped. As well as clean up after staff functions such as potlucks.
  • Contact other facility if Emergency room doctor request for medical records and obtain them. The distribute the information to the correct staff accordingly.
  • Inform the Trauma and Stroke coordinators when we need more trauma or stroke bands. Then meet with them to obtain the bands.
  • Faxing and forwarding any paperwork that the staff is needing to send to transferring facilities.
  • Picking up telemetry from monitor room when out.
  • Calling monitor room for patient placement on tele-box; informing them of the box number, room number, name, csn and mrn.
  • Ensure staffing stations are properly organized and cleaned. So that staff can have a clean and productive environment to work in.
  • Edit and print Dr on call list for Dr's. and nurses every three days, check email regularly for any edits or changes to the doctor on call list.
    Keep fresh coffee made for patients and family members.
  • Organized medical documents that come through the emergency room, such as electrocardiogram and other facilities medical info. Make sure these documents are sorted and ready for medical records to pick up.
  • When the pneumatic tube system is low on tube distribution contact the Laboratory to get more tubes.
  • Keep up to date on the inventory of different medical supplies kept in the supply closet. This can range from batteries to turniquits for arterial bleeds.
  • Make copies of paperwork or different transfer sheets if needed by staff.
  • Verifying telemetry boxes with monitor room after placing on patient, as well as verifying morning and evening to ensure that all boxes are accounted for.
  • Inform the correct staff when a doctor has notified the unit clerk that they are not on call.
  • Taking blood order sheets to the lab and picking up blood products for nursing staff.
  • Inform Doctors when they have been consulted. Keep information up to day of if they would like to be called paged or texted about the consult.
  • Keep running orders on supplies needed in the department. Make sure anything that is needing to be order (like paper or blood pressure cord) is notified to the management team.
  • Help the charge nurse greet and direct incoming emergency medical services to the proper rooms. Move patients on the ED Manager board in epic if needed for the charge nurse.
  • Let the emergency medical services in the county know when we have gone on divert and or don't have access to certain specialties.
  • Contacting general supply (if available) when certain supplies are needed from central supply stock. If central supply is not available, going to the location to retrieve the products.
  • Getting tools such as the urology or crash cart from central supply if needed. This also includes helping returning the carts if used or expired to central to be restocked.
  • Contact the printer company to help and or assist in repairing printer issues.
  • Assist in the aid of calling doctor or other facilities for nursing staff and doctors.
  • Help direct urgent calls to the doctors from the transfer facilities.
  • Call in house providers for emergency room doctors and help transfer calls accordingly.
  • Keep update on organizing daily staffing sheet and monitor room logs. Filing them accordingly in the clerk file cabinet.
