• As a school nurse, I support student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up for children in the school setting. While I draw from all of my various nursing roles/experience and education, the role of school nurse relies most heavily on nursing assessment, which I find to be one of my strongest nursing skills. In this role, I have addressed the physical, mental, emotional and social health needs of students, thus supporting their achievement in the learning process by bridging health care and education. I coordinate care for students with chronic health issues and increasingly complex medical problems that require treatment during the school day such as diabetes, asthma, anaphylaxis, seizure disorder, spina bifida, bleeding disorders, chronic heart conditions and mental health concerns.
