As a an avid community volunteer, I found an excellent fit for my personal interests in woodworking and building combined with giving back to my community. The SWRP is a not-for-profit (501C-3 UK equivalent) social enterprise aimed at reducing the construction and demolition waste stream going to landfills. Employed are full-time furniture builders, collection field crews, warehouse and yard workers and administration staff. All paid employees are candidates for social support in employment, such as ex-offenders, or those engaged in rehabilitation programs. My activities have included:

  • Wood prep and furniture building
  • Internal consulting with management on business strategies and goal-setting.

  • I founded the all-volunteer relief operation in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.
  • The project realized its goal in the production of 114 vessels with a total budget of $850K in donated funds.
