As a an avid community volunteer, I found an excellent fit for my personal interests in woodworking and building combined with giving back to my community. The SWRP is a not-for-profit (501C-3 UK equivalent) social enterprise aimed at reducing the construction and demolition waste stream going to landfills. Employed are full-time furniture builders, collection field crews, warehouse and yard workers and administration staff. All paid employees are candidates for social support in employment, such as ex-offenders, or those engaged in rehabilitation programs. My activities have included:

• Hands on reclaim collections
• Wood prep and furniture building
• Internal consulting with management on business strategies and goal-setting.

• Completed the installation of a plant-wide chilled and super-heated water system for multiple applications.
• Used critical thinking to break down problems, evaluate solutions and make decisions.
• Piggy-backed compressed air and other utilities through the same routes.
• Assessed plant infrastructure designs to determine potential safety and production issues before initiating installations.
• Established a complete project timeline using KanBan method.
• Proved successful working within tight deadlines and a fast-paced environment.

• Managed scheduling, coordinating, and overseeing vendors and subcontractors for the construction of a full-service haul-out and repair yard for vessels up to 200 tons.
• Regularly interfaced with structural, site and environmental engineers to ensure adherence to plans.
• Managed the Day-to-day construction processes and requirements, and developed operational Gantt charts to ensure >90% on-time hand-over of sub-projects.
• Oversaw the construction budget of $11M
• Accomplished entire build early in 2.5 years, in budget, with zero lost time accidents.

• Worked hands-on with a small team of 3-5 renovation specialists in the restoration of historic properties in the downtown Halifax area.
• Typical jobs included complete internal gutting, re-wiring and re-plumbing, extensions and additions, and foundation bolstering.
• Petitioned approvals from local authorities, Architectural Review Boards, and public utilities, securing certified engineering stamps where required.

• In this humanitarian relief project, I was responsible for site construction and operational oversight, as well as the day-to-day management of 20 boat builders, tradespeople, and international volunteers in the production of 10 to 12-meter fishing vessels.
• I founded the all-volunteer relief operation in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.
• The project realized its goal in the production of 114 vessels with a total budget of $850K in donated funds.
