The last 12 months at Sauer Brands Inc I had removed myself from the maintenance department and was in the "Blending" department as a production worker. I felt as if I was in the wrong job. I wasn't in maintenance anymore and that destroyed my job there.
I went to a company that I interacted with the entire time at SBI and it's closer to maintenance but I need to get back in my field of expertise, MAINTENANCE.
Started in the small press pressroom as a production press operator. Displayed mechanical aptitude and stared doing die change overs, assisting with die sharpening and repair. Implemented a "standardization" of the un-coordinated die & press alignments. We made new bed & top plates for the dies enabling all dies could work in all presses in the department. Working with another maintenance technician, we assembled a Cold Header that was in pieces in crates. We had it making rivets and blanks within one work week. I made die components in the machine shop and anealed them and hardened them.
Started my Millwright apprenticeship working with experienced Millwright and Maintenance Technicians repairing and maintaining production machinery. Installed new silver line that year. I got laid-off and joined tge U S Air Force. I returned in May 1983. Worked as a Maintenance Technician until tge company moved to PA under new ownership.
