  • Where we plate, laminate, convert flex diamond abrasive belts, disks and sheets
  • Responsibilities include ordering of raw materials and maintaining inventories of raw, semi-finished and finished materials
  • Daily operations of the electroplating lab including, daily titrations, and monitoring of chemical balances of several different systems
  • Coordinating production in 8 different 1000-gallon planting tanks and 5 smaller 200-gallon tanks each containing 8 different grades of diamond abrasive that may call for different chemical balances to achieve the desired finish on product as fine as eye glasses to chilled iron rolls
  • We were continually running experiments with developers creating new products and enhancing existing recipes of standard products
  • Constantly microscopically analyzing nickel plated material, I worked closely with the suppliers of the photoresist carrier used in our process and created a new quality tracking document that has reduced waste
  • I was awarded a 3 P certificate for this accomplishment
  • After this company discontinued this process I was instrumental in the purchase, set up and start up of this process in Cumberland
  • I also have a certification in our Metal Bond disc lab where we do similar nickel plating only on a much more detailed application
  • This job also allows me to travel the 3M Cam Center Bld 240 about twice a month to prep materials on more technical machines such as their flat finishing machines and durometers
  • As a Quality Star Point I have worked very hard with the Plant Quality Team to Achieve our ISO 9001 Certification
  • I have recently been asked to work on a behavior-based Quality sub group where we try to improve quality thru behavior observations
  • Have worked with very minimal supervision covering all three shifts to meet business needs
  • Have been a Major part in our team having one of the highest service percentages in the plant
  • Currently working on several Six Sigma projects involving work with suppliers to improve quality of incoming raw materials and working with developers trying to make improvements in certain products for key customers
  • Have also completed a self study course to achieve Technically Trained Operator (TTO) status where I perform many of the plant engineering preventive maintenance tasks and also work with them on several plant engineering projects
  • In 2009 3M Cumberland started to support 3M’s Power tool program, a program that was awarded a Golden Step award
  • The Award is given to commercialized products that are profitable and have generated at least $10 million USD in annual sales during any year within 3 full years after launch
  • The Power Tool System got there in year one!
  • We perform both warranty and non-warranty repairs of three different power tool lines
  • I was one of three employees chosen to train for this position
  • I have been involved with our plants ergonomics team working to identify and reduce ergo related injuries and encourage employee participation in stretching programs like (Stretch Time)
  • I have worked as sports editor with 3M Cumberland’s plant magazine, The Megaphone
