In 1986 I started my public safety and security career, beginning with 2 years as an Army MP and continuing on as reserve deputy, corrections officer, police officer, EMT, fire fighter, EMT and a security supervisor as well as an Army national guard combat medic. I left pulic service in 2000 for medical reasons. I was trained in using verbal techniques to deescalate tense situations and I found that verbal deescalation was safer and easier than physical confrontation. While a security supervisor, I was in charge of over 100 officers at over 100 posts in the Kansas City metro area and I helped draft posts orders for new accounts
