Work History

Associate Level Professor

West Virginia University Hospitals
09.2024 - Current
  • As co-director of the OPAT program, I oversee a multidisciplinary service that manages patients requiring intravenous antimicrobials after hospital discharge.
  • Develop and implement protocols to ensure safe transitions of care, optimize antibiotic selection and monitoring, and reduce readmissions through close coordination with home infusion agencies, skilled nursing facilities, and primary/specialty providers.
  • Provide ongoing patient care through telemedicine visits, leading quality-improvement and antimicrobial stewardship initiatives, conducting OPAT-related research and outcomes projects, and guiding data-driven program development.
  • Participate in the education of trainees and staff on best practices in outpatient IV therapy.

Assistant Level Professor

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
07.2018 - 07.2024
  • Cared for patients with cancer in and out of the hospital on the infectious disease consultation service.
  • Published 10 papers in prestigious journals, such as Clinical Infectious Disease and Infection and Immunity; assisted collaborators in publishing in journals, such as Nature and Blood. See Google Scholar for full list of publications.
  • Started a penicillin skin testing program (2018) to help clarify allergy labels. This program de-labeled almost 1000 patients of their penicillin allergies, resulting is significant cost savings to the hospital.
  • Started a unit wide mobility program to prevent functional decline in patients mitigating negative clinical outcomes associated with immobility, such as pneumonia and increased length of stay.
  • Served on an Operational Excellence committee to develop innovative strategies to reduce hospital length and improve early discharge times using Lean Six Sigma principles. On one medical floor, we were able to reduce LOS by 0.5 hospital days.
  • Taught trainees how to take care of patients with a variety of infections.

Academic Instructor

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
07.2016 - 07.2018
  • Evaluated patients on clinical wards while conducting research to explore the microbiome's composition and its influence on the immune system.

Research Fellow

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
07.2015 - 10.2016
  • Studied the impact of the microbiome on monocyte activation in bone marrow transplant recipients
