There are many paths to take in life, vast ranges of options and opportunities, and my journey of work experience started at age 16. My first job was at Safeway where I worked part time after school at the register, handling cash, bagging groceries, and efficiently helping customers get home quickly after a long day of shopping. I learned professionalism and time management. My hobbies included sports and ice skating, giving me the opportunity to train my body to learn new skills, and team building. As an avid ice skater I found that I could learn for free if I got a job at an ice rink, where I could learn and get paid for something I did for fun. There I learned to multitask. Around the age of 20 I got my first job at a pizza and grill in Alexandria as a host. I began an early development of communication skills and organization as I arranged seating and reservations for dining guests. From there, I would try out many different restaurants and learn new skills from washing dishes, cleaning tables, eventually engaging deeper with guests to take orders as a server. Working diligently up the ladder until I was running a bar alone to craft drinks and entertain guests with conversation. I have always been a hands on learner, diving deep into what I was doing, never content with school as a sense of direction. However, my greatest in-class achievement was the reward of a class A commercial drivers license after months of class time and hands on driving. I would say it was one of the hardest things I've had to work for, but the success of getting that special license drove me to find more for myself in life
