In my current role, I manage special programs at commercial and multiplication farms in Iowa and Missouri, ensuring compliance with biosecurity systems, animal welfare standards, and protocols established for the various farms by company veterinarians:
Proposition 12 (Prop 12) Compliance: Adherence to California regulations based on animal welfare standards, such as the ban on confining sows in gestation crates, limits on lactation duration, and the use of more spacious pens, among other measures.
Gestal feeding system: Automated feeding stations that dispense feed, make adjustments, and identify sows based on feed intake.
Genetic improvement program: Identification system using ear tags and tracking of phenotypic and genotypic traits.

EMERGING LEADER – CHARITON GILTS

Multiplier farm with an inventory of 5,500 sows; we produce our own replacement sows (L3 line) and supply breeding stock to 35 farms within the system. Experience in farrowing (processing tasks, room washing, system data entry, treatments, feed line maintenance), gestation (boar handling, insemination, stimulation, estrus detection, etc.), and the gilt development unit/GDU (boar handling, vaccination, estrus detection, pen management, room washing, sow data entry, etc.).
