Accomplishments

  • On one occasion on a project, I was tasked with supervising the sub-contractor for the pier work needed for the pipe supports. However, I observed the sub-contractor was not equipped to fulfill the task, was unprepared and did not have the proper tools or experienced crew members to perform the job correctly and efficiently. The crew was substituted with a competent contractor, saving the client time and money.
  • During the lowering in of a pipeline, I observed the latch pin had come loose on a track hoe as the pipe was being hoisted into the ditch line. Using my stop work authority, I paused the work and instructed the operator to cease lowering in operations until a new latch pin could be found and put in place.
  • While assigned as the HDD inspector for a 250' track bore, I became aware the contractor was constantly having equipment and repair issues. During this bore, I became aware that although the contractor was down approximately 70% during this portion of the project, they were turning in reports to the gas operator claiming they were making positive forward progress. I notified the chief inspector that the footage being claimed by the contractor was incorrect and in spite of the contractor bringing in new equipment, they still did not manage to achieve forward progress on the bore. Because of my attention to detail a new HDD contractor was brought in and the bore was eventually achieved saving the client several overcharges and delays.
