• Locating and marking the position of pipe installations
• Laying out full-scale drawings of pipe systems
• Shutting off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections
• Filling pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air to detect leaks

• Read blueprints and specifications to determine the layout of the piping system
• Choose the materials and equipment needed for the job
• Install pipes and fixtures, and extend piping as needed
• Inspect and test the installed piping system to ensure it's working properly
• Perform repairs and maintenance on existing piping systems
