  • My responsibilities as a Group Supervisor 3 were to keep the facility peaceful, secure, and orderly. As a Coach I would monitor and supervise youths through mental, emotional, and psychological life challenges. Daily responsibilities before the youths were released from their rooms would make sure that the facility was secure, safe, and all monitoring devices were in working conditions. When our youths are awake, serve as a role model to ensure a productive setting, collect records from the previous shift regarding youth's behavior, ensure that the housing units, dining area, school, and counseling areas are safe for all residents and staff. Conduct cell searches, collect and record youth's personal property, Conduct intakes when we would have new inmates, maintain and update youth's records, enforce behavior standards, diffuse all altercations through crisis intervention training, prepare incident reports and collect evidence, operating radio devices to keep all staff aware of the count and movement of all whereabouts of residents and staff. Escort youths to Court Appointments outside the facility, Conduct group counseling, communicate with families during on campus visits, monitor outgoing phone calls to ensure the safety of staff and our residents. Maintain constant communication with Control, and Supervision regarding the pulse of the facility to maintain control and peace of the facility. I was promoted to Lead Coach and was asked to do overnights from time to time, I would also work the Control Room when staff was short. Summary of my duties is to maintain and monitor a safe and secure environment for all residents and staff while keeping direct communication with our youths, staff, supervision, and law enforcement when required.

  • Community Navigator for TPOP (Truancy Prevention Outreach Program) which is under the supervision of the Harbor which is under the umbrella of Department of Juvenile Justice and Children and Family Services. Services provided by TPOP include Truancy Diversion, addressing housing instability through referrals, address food insecurities through outreach, provide childcare, networking with social security and local workforce systems for employment, create learning labs with licensed tutors, and case planning for families in need of services. TPOP objective is to develop a plan to re-engage youths and families with CCSD personnel, TPOP understands the early warning signs of at-risk students and provide support with families and school officials. Intervention is offered through case management to locate the root causes of their absences. Navigators must attend a two-week Academy for all qualified candidates.

  • My duties as Home Detention Officer were to interview youths and families regarding the rules and regulation of the Home Detention Project and all the special conditions. Home Detention was an alternative to youth being detained in our detention center. This officer would supervise and monitor youths through face to face and GPS Electronic monitoring for high level offenders. This officer would supervise youths in the home, at school, and at work all contacts were recorded on logs sheet and contact notes. This officer would also be in close contact with law enforcement and community leaders. Offenders that violate these court orders, this officer would remand this youth back to detention pending trial, and if a youth's whereabouts in the community go unknown the officer would file for an arrest warrant. Random drug screens, Case Management, and Prepare Court Reports. Testify during Court Hearing as needed.
