  • Dear Whom It May Concern
  • I am writing to provide a summary of Paulette T Brookins diagnostic findings following her motor vehicle accident (MVA) on July 10, 2023, and subsequent medical evaluation.
  • The patient underwent a cervical spine MRI two months following the MVA in September 2023, which incidentally revealed a round enhancing 1.4 cm mass at the C1 level, consistent with a meningioma. This mass is mildly indenting the right posterolateral aspect of the spinal cord. Meningiomas are generally benign tumors, and there is no immediate indication of malignancy. The presence of this mass may be incidental, as it does not appear to have been caused by the MVA itself but was noted during the diagnostic process.
  • Additionally, the MRI also demonstrated multilevel degenerative changes in the cervical and upper thoracic spine, which include:
  • Disc bulge at C6-7
  • Extrusion at T1-2
  • Ligamentum flavum thickening at T2-3
  • While these degenerative changes were indenting the spinal cord, they do not result in severe spinal canal or neural foraminal stenosis. These changes could be indicative of chronic, age-related spinal degeneration, and are unlikely to be directly related to the motor vehicle accident. However, it is difficult to definitively ascertain whether the trauma from the MVA may have aggravated these pre-existing conditions or contributed to their progression.
  • The patient underwent an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) at the C6-7 level on July 9, 2024 with Dr. Petrov to address the degenerative changes and associated symptoms. This procedure was unrelated to the meningioma and was performed to stabilize the cervical spine and alleviate any related discomfort.
  • In conclusion, while the MVA may have aggravated the patient's existing spinal degeneration, there is insufficient evidence to definitively attribute either the meningioma or the cervical spine changes directly to the accident. Ongoing follow-up will be essential for both the monitoring of the meningioma and the management of her cervical spine condition.
