High-Acuity Critical Care Practice

• Deliver care to complex, multi-system, critically ill patients in high-acuity ICU settings with strong clinical autonomy.
• Manage 2–3 high-acuity patients requiring advanced hemodynamic and ventilatory support.
• Rapidly assess, prioritize, and intervene in life-threatening situations with minimal direction

Advanced Device and Hemodynamic Management.

• Manage patients with IABP and Impella for cardiogenic shock and advanced cardiac support.
• Monitor and interpret data from Swan-Ganz (PA) catheters, including CO, CI, SVR, PAP, and CVP.
• Care for patients with arterial lines, central lines, temporary pacemakers, and other invasive monitoring devices
• Experience in ventilator management for ARDS, respiratory failure, and complex weaning scenarios.

Medical ICU.

• Manage critically ill patients with sepsis, ARDS, shock states, and multi-organ failure
• Titrate vasoactive, sedative, paralytic, and analgesic infusions with precision
• Assist in bedside procedures, including intubation and line placements.
• Recognize subtle clinical changes, and escalate care proactively.

Cardiac ICU.

• Care for patients with cardiogenic shock, acute coronary syndromes, decompensated heart failure, and unstable arrhythmias
• Interpret complex cardiac rhythms, and intervene appropriately.
• Manage high-risk cardiac drips, including inotropes, vasopressors, and antiarrhythmics.

Neuro ICU.

• Perform high-level neurological assessments (GCS, NIHSS, pupil reactivity)
• Manage EVDs and ICP monitoring devices per protocol
• Implement neuroprotective strategies to prevent secondary brain injury
• Rapidly detect and report neurological decline

SICU, ED, and Med-Surg Nurse Extern

• Along with preceptor provided comfort care for critically ill patients including repositioning, oral hygiene, skin assessments; hung IV antibiotics, sedatives, electrolytes via infusion pumps; conducted neurological checks every 2 hours including pupillary response, Glasgow coma assessments; assisted in 3 cardiac arrest response codes; accessed central line and arterial line for blood draws; documented intake/outputs, cardiopulmonary function to identify instability.
• Assisted preceptor with tracheostomy suctioning and dressing changes; managed PEG tube feeds while monitoring tolerance for patient; completed straight catheterization, bladder scans, and glucose monitoring to assess fluid balance, urine retention, and BGL status; participated in hand-off reports providing shift assessment updates on orientation, respiratory function, intake/output, and skin integrity for patients at end of shift.
