Superintendent responsibilities

• Site Preparation & Logistics: Oversees land clearing, grading, and excavation planning. Sets up site facilities and controls heavy machinery traffic.
• Safety & Compliance Enforcement: Manages compliance with trenching, shoring, and confined space regulations. Conducts daily risk assessments and safety meetings.
• Crew & Equipment Management: Directs equipment operators, laborers, and grade checkers. Coordinates the delivery, fueling, and maintenance of heavy machinery like excavators, bulldozers, and dump trucks.
• Quality Control: Ensures digging elevations, soil compaction levels, and trench alignments meet exact project blueprints and engineering specifications.
• Project Scheduling & Reporting: Tracks earth moving progress against the project schedule. Maintains daily logs of work completed, site conditions, and any subcontractor issues.
• Utility Coordination: Manages the safe exposure and installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, electrical, telecom) while coordinating with local inspectors and project engineers
• Keep good report with client and other trades on site.
• Resolve conflicts onsite to minimize or ensure no extra cost

Foreman responsibilities

• Job Site Management: Planning daily excavation sequences and delegating tasks to equipment operators and laborers to ensure productivity goals are met.
• Safety Enforcement: Conducting daily tailgate safety meetings, ensuring OSHA compliance, and monitoring trench/excavation shoring and site hazards.
• Quality & Blueprints: Reading and interpreting engineering plans, grading stakes, and utility maps to ensure exact digging depths and land contours.
• Equipment Oversight: Managing heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, dozers, skid steers) and ensuring operators perform routine maintenance and inspections.
• Crew Administration: Managing crew timecards, handling on-the-job training, and submitting daily progress and material reports to the project superintendent.
