  • June-2009: This included the DPS crime lab- covered different investigation techniques such as fingerprint dusting and lifting, tread mark comparison, casting of tire, shoe and tool marks, and went on a tour of the crime lab and learned what each office was designed for
  • State Fire Marshall’s office - we were shown the different arson investigation techniques and the equipment used to break down chemical and natural accelerants used in the arson investigation, met and learned what the dog used in investigations does and how these dogs are trained to sniff out accelerants, and learned how they profile possible arson suspects
  • Crime Scene Investigation - learned the crime scene investigation process from a crime scene investigator retired from Austin PD, and had guest speakers who educated us on DNA preservation and extraction.
