Dedicated RN with many years of experience in pre-admit to post-op care of surgical patients. Consistently developing strong relationships with patients, families, co-workers through patience, empathetic communication, respectful attitude and good customer service.
I currently work in pre/post-op and PACU. This involves prepping patients for surgery such as explaining and having patients sign their consent, start IV's, shave and scrub surgical sites, answer questions and explain the process to the patient. In PACU I monitor vital signs, airway, pain levels, nausea, incision sites and treat pain and nausea. I give discharge instructions to patients and their family members and make sure they understand before they go home. I also do pre-admit calls every day at the end of the day and have the Anesthesia department review any chart in question.
Worked on the inpatient floor for 5 months taking care of post-op surgical patients then moved to the Pre/Post op and PACU unit. Prepped pt's for surgery : explained surgical consent thoroughly, started IV's, scrubbed surgical sites, educated pt's and their families on the process/expectations of their stay and post op discharge teaching while putting their minds at ease. In PACU I monitored vital signs, airway, incision sites, pain levels, monitored heart rhythms , communicated well with surgeons ,anesthesiologists, and my fellow co workers and managers. I also worked in the Pre-Admit office once weekly calling people and obtaining their health history and gathering lab work EKG, chest x-rays, etc. and having the anesthesiologists review patient's charts if necessary. This also included pre-op teaching, drawing blood, performing EKG's, answering their questions, and putting their minds at ease. I then moved to the GFC Surgery Center in 2015 and worked in PACU and step down units. I also took care of patients having endoscopies - post-procedure. I did pre-admit calls as well every day I worked at the end of the day.
