I completed a 164 hour internship in the Critical Care Unity at MercyOne North Iowa Hospital. I was able to work one-on-one with a preceptor to learn about the daily tasks and lifestyle of a CCU nurse. My clinical experience consisted of medication administration, physical assessments, working alongside the interdisciplinary team, and using my nursing knowledge in the critical care setting. By the end of this experience, I was able to take on an assignment that consisted of 1-2 critically ill patients and provide proper care over a 12-hour period.
I experienced all different clinical rotations including OR, PACU, med-surg, pediatrics, OB, NICU, infusion center, emergency department, ICU, behavioral health, and clinics. I was able to take the skills learned in the classroom and apply them to a real life scenario within a patient care setting. As a nursing student, I also was able to participate in the care of different diversity groups. Some of these groups included disabled children, low socioeconomic status's, and community health.
