• Covered news and features after parachuting in for breaking/developing national stories, (mass shootings, wildfires, etc.) staying for whatever length of time needed and continuing coverage upon departure. Pitched enterprise, particularly true crime and human interest, including off the back of breaking stories, identifying new angles for deeper coverage. Wrote Voices pieces on topical issues. Obtained exclusive interviews and expand true crime/unsolved mysteries beat. Mentored younger reporters on the road and remotely. Conducted podcast interviews to promote Independent stories.

• Pitched and wrote stories for international and national publications including The Independent, DailyMail.com, The Irish Times, Sunday Independent (Ireland), Irish Mail on Sunday, The Sun, Life and Fabulous magazines. Provided content for outlets including Bloomberg, American Heart Association, corporate/nonprofit sites, magazines and other publications. Ferreted out unique stories across the US, traveling to conduct interviews with bylines ranging from Los Angeles to Chicago to New York.

• Began as the first hire on the newly-formed DailyMail.com features desk, writing long-form pieces across a range of human interest topics and news features in tandem with breaking stories. Liaised with visual departments, conducting interviews for video, arranging drone footage, etc. Managed reporters and edited content, providing cover as required for features editor. Nurtured relationships with sources, PR agencies and other contacts globally to identify and develop story ideas. Mentored young reporters and helped develop new department.

• Held a number of roles across Irish Mail titles after being hired in 2008 as a news reporter/deputy news editor for the Irish Mail on Sunday. Went on to break exclusives and win two Justice Media Awards while conceiving and assigning national feature ideas for Daily and Sunday papers, glossy You magazine, supplements and pull-outs. Managed reporters and edited copy as required while completing magazine cover interviews, drawing pages and writing headlines/captions. Maintained relationships with public relations companies/sources. Liaised with photographers and stylists for shoots.

• Covered daily news stories for morning Metro edition, including the paper's first front-page exclusives in Ireland. Covered as news editor as required.

• Provided newsletter, website copy and other communications support for private K-12 boarding school; redesigned site and secured media coverage for school developents; liaised with principal, teachers, parents, board of governors and other stakeholders; did all this while freelancing for The Associated Press during my first year in Ireland, further educating myself on the country's political, cultural and journalistic landscape. Pitched and wrote culture stories for AP's 18-35 service at the time. Provided holiday cover for AP's Ireland correspondent.

• Edited copy as International Desk intern at AP's 50 Rock offices to ensure proper comprehension/appropriateness for American audiences. Translated print copy into broadcast as general reporter in Alabama and Texas. Covered first Hispanic issues beat in Alabama; Covered 18-35 beat in Texas. Covered breaking news, politics, entertainment and sports as general assignment reporter in all three states. Worked editing shifts, including overnight and broadcast.
