As a Charge Nurse on a 36-bed Intermediate Medical Unit (IMU), I provided clinical leadership during day shifts, overseeing daily operations and supporting a multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality patient care. My responsibilities included delegating nursing assignments, coordinating admissions and discharges, assisting bedside nurses, conducting patient rounding, and managing the night shift schedule. I consistently collaborated with unit management to optimize workflow and staffing while maintaining a calm, fair, and balanced approach during high-pressure situations. This role required strong multitasking, communication, and problem-solving skills, especially when managing a diverse and complex patient population, including post-surgical patients, cardiac cases requiring drips, respiratory support (BiPAP, Vapotherm), trauma cases, and COVID-19 patients. Began my nursing career on a 16-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), providing care to a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels and complex medical conditions. Gained experience in managing critical care patients, monitoring cardiac telemetry, and administering cardiac drips. Promoted to Charge Nurse while maintaining a full patient assignment, demonstrating strong leadership and time management skills. Also served as a preceptor for new nurses, supporting their clinical development and integration into the unit.
