Working with Older Adults with Varied Ability

I was a reservationist for Laidlaw Transit in St. Paul, a paratransit provider for people with disabilities and older adults. I did this from 1998-2003. I interacted with Metro Mobility users when they called in to set up rides for activities in their daily lives. Many of them had different communication styles based on their abilities. Some utilized TTY because they were nonverbal, hard of hearing, or deaf. Most interacted with me via phone to communicate their needs. This position required patience, attention to detail, and empathy for a rider's needs.

When booking the ride, I needed to make sure the address information was correct, the individuals' mode of ambulation was correct (did they use a walker or wheelchair), and the time and date of their trip were correct.
