  • Company Overview: The University of Michigan's miRcore Lab researches genes which correlate to Alzheimer's, identifying susceptible neuro-biological pathways
  • I applied and was accepted to work as a junior researcher
  • Working alongside a dozen undergraduates, I researched the ATP5 gene (which encodes ATP synthase) and investigated how downregulated ATP could diminish brain function and induce dementia
  • I input each Alzheimer's-correlated gene into the National Center for Biotechnology Institution database to map out the genetic relationships
  • Possible downregulated genomes included ATP6V1D, ATP6V1G2, and C14orf2
  • For my final project, I concluded that the lack of ATP correlates to decreased brain function, along with low mitochondrial activity
  • I presented my findings to 6 biology professors and dozens of peers
