Hi, I am Shruti Attili, a student at Washtenaw International High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan (Class of '26). I am interested in and hope to pursue a career in Healthcare, and am excited to gain volunteering and research experience related to the medical field!
As a current Brown Belt, I practice Songham Taekwondo at Saline ATA (American Taekwondo Association), participating in statewide tournaments and learning material to advance to higher ranks, with a personal goal to reach Black Belt level skill.
I graduated from the Manabadi program 5 years ago with a degree in Telugu with Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (PSTU). As a student teacher, I teach kids how to read, write, and speak Telugu, as well as teach them about Telugu Culture. I also volunteer at Siliconandhra Community Events and emcee at Telugu Programs.

MiRcore is a nonprofit research organization with a focus on democratizing medical research so that anyone can conduct medical research based on what matters to them. Last year, my group and I researched Type 1 Diabetes and used GEO2R, KEGG, and STRINGdb, presenting our findings to the annual miRcore High School Research Conference, and published an abstract in "2023 miRcore High School Conference."
I checked patients in and out of their appointments at the medical clinic, answered phone calls, and scheduled appointments for patients.
I am 1 of 25 students chosen to be on the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation's Youth Council, where youth council members evaluate and award around $85,000 in grants per year. I participated in reviewing non-profit grant applications, interviewing applicants, and attending monthly meetings discussing Ann Arbor's Youth related issues (i.e. mental health, anti-discrimination, academic support services, juvenile division of the probate court).
The Saline Health Care Improvement Task Force was founded during the pandemic in order to address health care disparities in the Saline Community. Some of the Projects I have been involved in this year are making a Health Care repository for Saline Residents, establishing and overseeing a Health Care Task Force Social Media page to promote resources, making Blue Zone presentations and webinars to encourage healthy living, and transferring Needs-Assessment Data into Graph form. I also take meeting minutes and send them out to the task force after monthly Quorums.
To become a certified peer educator, I have gone through 50+ hours of training on topics such as reproductive health and contraception, sexuality and LGBTQIA+ rights, and healthy relationships and lifestyles. I serves as a non judgemental and confidential resource for my peers in the Ann Arbor Community Schools, and provide advice on any of these topics to individuals in my school. I give presentations in my community on contraception, STIs, and LGBTQ+ inclusiveness. I also participate in other PPMI-organized events in an effort to educate others about reproductive rights and issues, attending tabling events to advocate for racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and other social justice issues faced in the Ann Arbor & Ypsilanti Area.
At IHA's Clinic in Clinton I shadowed a Primary Care Physician for 50+ hours, gaining insight into the daily life and work schedule of a Family Physician, as well as observing patient and providor interaction.
As a Hospital Volunteer, I assisted with patient transport, ensuring timely arrival to appointments by pushing them on wheelchairs. Volunteering at the reception desk of Employee Health, I organized patient UDS and Zoonosis paperwork/charts in Medical Cabinets in alignment with all HIPPA protocols. Lastly, I restocked materials in the ER Rooms.
I serve as the Co-Founder and Vice President of the Red Cross Club Chapter at my High School. After establishing the club in the fall of 2023, we have successfully planned and executed 2 club fundraisers. This year, we are working on planning a School Blood Drive with the help of local sponsors, a community outreach event for Club Members, and a Community Fundraiser for a local Nonprofit in the Ypsilanti-Ann Arbor Area.
Using my 10+ years of Carnatic Music Theory & Singing Experience, I have obtained a Level 1 Junior Carnatic Musician Certification, which equates to 8 University Credits with Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (PSTU).
At Brecon Village Assisted Living and Memory Care Unit in Saline, Michigan, I engage in meaningful conversation with residents and assist them during Dinner and Daily Enrichment Activities.
