Hobbies and Interests

I've always known that I wanted to be an artist. It began with finger painting and crayons, now I'm currently working with oil and charcoal. Painting and drawing are the most effective ways of expressing how I'm feeling and most often how I love to begin important conversations. I made my final foundation drawing project for freshman year about the stress of going away to college at the age of 17. I wanted to talk about the rare occurrence of not being an official adult when applying and moving away into the beginning stages of adulthood. When applying to college and the AP Studio art board, I submitted my portfolio with the theme of mental health and how one views their own mental health in stages: denial, sadness, and acceptance. I'm looking to be an art teacher later in life hoping to inspire young minds. As someone who has experienced teachers that kill passion and creativity by stressing about technique and precision, I want to be the fuel to the fire of the artistic wave. Drawing is not a talent, but a dedication. "Whatever you do, the secret is to believe in it and satisfy yourself. Don't do it for anyone else"- Keith Haring.

Volunteer work

I ran a donation station within Bay Ridge Prep High School for all types of women who are unable to afford menstrual products. I made posters listing statistics, big organizations that also take donations, and the main products that we needed. We had three days to prep the station, and three days to take donations At the end of the week, we filled three big home depot boxes with pads, tampons, and adult diapers.

Another project I have worked on was tending to a community garden with the organization "Change.org". I helped feed chickens, clean out weeds, replant plants, and also hand out fresh veggies/fruits to the people in the surrounding community. I loved getting the chance to talk to a couple of the year-round workers of the garden and learning about how they initially got into their volunteer work.

With the National Honor Society in Bay Ridge Prep High School, I helped run multiple bake sale days for an organization we partnered with for Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine. It was a three-day bake sale and we made over 300 dollars to donate. At the end of the project, it was amazing to see the small school community come together to support a devastating cause.
