Utility Billing Specialist III

  • Responsible for providing a high level of support to departmental staff in areas including utility billing and payments; lien searches; resident online website support; resolving customer issues and complaints; cashiering duties; mail processing; and reporting. As a senior member of the team, tasked with training and mentoring of new staff.
  • Serve as one of two billing specialist, involved in the entire billing cycle including generating reports, performing reconciliations, and troubleshooting unusual billing reports. Proactively generate and monitor reports, as well as edit billing steps to prevent errors.
  • Receive, review, prepare and/or submit various records and reports including City forms and official documents, service work orders, exception reports, and summary reports. Compile data as directed for supervisor and auditors.
  • Open daily mail and prepare payments for processing. Process payments, correct rejected payments, balance accounts, make deposits, prepare customer complaint/concern response letters, and maintain account information in Click2Gov system.
  • Effectively conduct lien searches, as well as research, process, and responses within 5-7 days.
  • Research customer inquiries and respond in a timely manner. Reply to all appropriate communication from customers, other agencies, and offices by mail, email, and telephone.
  • Proactively resolve customer complaints and reassure customers with confident answers to enhance the image of the City.
  • Worked with the IT department to set up systems allowing for lien work to be completed from one centralized system.
  • Perform cashiering duties including preparing accurate bank deposits, assisting utility customers, reconciling cash register, and receiving and posting revenue to proper accounts.
