Respiratory Therapy Shadowing Experience
As a high school student, I was honored to have the opportunity to shadow respiratory therapists in a hospital setting. This experience allowed me to observe patient care firsthand and gain insight into the important role respiratory therapists play in improving patients’ health. I learned about the various respiratory machines and equipment used to diagnose, monitor, and treat patients with breathing conditions. Under professional supervision, I also had the opportunity to assist with performing oxygen saturation screenings on newborn babies. This experience strengthened my interest in healthcare while developing my observation, communication, professionalism, and critical thinking skills. It gave me a greater appreciation for compassionate patient care and reinforced my desire to pursue a career in the medical field.
