  • Plans and implements all recreation/park programs and services in the Roanoke Island/Mainland Division. Communicates and coordinates with town staff and school organizations to deliver optimal recreation and leisure services to the citizens of Dare County.
  • Supervises 5+ full-time and part time staff. Participates in the employee selection process; identifies and provides training; monitors work; counsels and conducts meetings; completes performance evaluations; and initiates disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Manages and oversees program enrollment, collection of fees and maintenance of records. Recruits, trains volunteer coaches and officials; supervises practices and games; assures rules are applied appropriately; adjusts schedules and communicates with staff, coaches, and public due to sudden cancellations. Determines whether field conditions are safe for public use.
  • Resolves conflict with public, coaches, and players. Tactfully disciplines if needed according to the department code of conduct policies.
  • Performs budgetary applications including Munis, PO's, requisition entries, procurement cards, Rec Desk and Arbitor.
  • Secures invoices and orders most equipment and recreation needs for all 3 divisions.
  • Schedules program activities including practices, games and tournaments on department fields. Coordinates scheduling of ball fields with schools and other community facilities.
  • Plans, organizes and promotes a variety of recreation/leisure services for various age groups.
  • Manages 9+ parks and facilities; completes safety inspections; develops maintenance standards and suggests improvements.
  • Substitutes for Director when not available; performs budget transfers at the end of budget cycles, secures and produces PO's and check vouchers for major projects; recruitment of job candidates; attends department head meetings and relay's information, completes Time-clock for multiple departments bi-weekly; led recreation advisory committee meetings, and participated in 2016 Springsted Public Service Director Position Study.
