Sophie “Spencer” Crawford

I’ve been a self-employed housekeeper and dog sitter for almost a decade. As an independent housekeeper and sitter, I’ve learned how to clean any and all messes no matter how large or small. I’ve also learned a wide range of skills aside from cleaning, such as networking and time management.

As a Direct Support Professional it was my responsibility to assist those with disabilities with a wide variety of tasks. I would assist with every day activities such as grocery shopping, hygiene, exercise and socializing, along with more advanced tasks such as medication management and overnight care. Being a Direct Support Professional also allowed me the opportunity to take part in The Special Olympics for 2 years in a row.

While employed at The Orca Theater I learned a wide array of skills that helped me with future careers. I was in charge of selling tickets and greeting guests, I sold concessions and prepared any of the snacks that needed to be cooked or prepared before being sold. I also cleaned and closed the establishment on a regular basis. This includes assisting in counting inventory and getting any and all equipment ready for the next work day.

I was a general cashier at the fast food restaurant, Arby’s. There I learned to work in a time-sensitive environment and acquired the skills necessary to prepare food in a timely manner. I also assisted with cleaning and prep work behind the scenes. When I wasn’t washing and preparing ingredients I was working the front counter and greeting customers before taking orders. I also assisted with cooking fried foods, getting ordered together before hanging them out, and sanitation.
