Summary

I am a dedicated and compassionate medical professional with a strong background in end-of-life care, medication administration, and patient advocacy and protection. My experience encompasses memory care, diabetic management, quadriplegic/paraplegic support, medication management, and hospice care, where I have consistently demonstrated exceptional emotional intelligence, problem-solving abilities, and a deep commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of my patients/Residents.

After taking a hiatus from the healthcare field due to personal challenges, including a significant recovery journey following a time spent in a coma, I am eager to re-enter the field in some aspect with renewed purpose and passion. Recently, I relocated back to Spokane after the heartbreaking loss of my mother to cancer. She was a the K-12 special education teacher for Freeman School District for over 15 years, and coming home to reconnect with family and lifelong friends has been a source of comfort and inspiration. It is my heartfelt desire to honor her legacy by using my skills and compassion to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others and having lost the strength required for hospice I’ve been feeling lost and empty.

I am particularly drawn to the dental assistant apprenticeship, as my previous experience includes utilizing similar clinical tools during patient care, such as cleaning and suctioning for individuals with tracheotomies. I know I have much more direct experience doing meds, but I worry about my memory when it comes to recalling med interactions and the like if I were to apply for the pharmacy tech apprenticeship and I also like working closer with people in a more hands on way as well. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to leverage my healthcare background and adaptability in this potential new role, and I look forward to learning and growing within the field if accepted. I am committed to excelling in this apprenticeship and contributing positively to the team and the patients you serve. I want to add I am not easily squeamish and can keep professional in all situations and one of my favorite parts of school and classes were always the dissection, salivas not gonna be an issue for me.

  • *To explain my decision to leave my previous position at Sea View where I served as NOC shift Medication Aide/Tech to two halls of double rooms in a lockdown Memory Care unit. This was my second tenure at the facility, and I was directly approached via phone at my parents house by the Head of the Memory care unit who had been fired the last time I’d been doing the same job there for the same stuff that was going on, Audrey, after addressing prior issues related to resident safety that even resulted in a death when I was no longer working there I returned. During my time there, I once again reported countless instances of abuse and medication mistreatment and errors that were not adequately addressed or just flat out not addressed at all, prompting me to escalate the matter to law enforcement directly and subsequently to the state. As a result of my advocacy, necessary actions were taken, Audrey finally lost her license, and obviously disciplinary measures that affected the facility's operations were put back into place after I had worked so hard to get our signs removed, but patient safety is #1 for me. Unfortunately, I faced retaliatory processes from the management following these reports, which further impacted my decision to resign. Following my departure, I unfortunately encountered significant health challenges due to autoimmune disorders, requiring long-term treatment and chemotherapy. I have been in full recovery since September 2024 (no more methotrexate even) and am now eager to reenter the workforce. While I am no longer able to perform physical tasks such as lifting, changing, and repositioning patients, my passion for patient care remains strong. I am excited about the prospect of entering a new field and am enthusiastic about the opportunity to engage with patients in a different capacity. I am available to discuss my experiences further, including the challenges I faced in advocating for patient safety in southern Oregon.*

  • Contributed to an overall positive caregiving experience by offering emotional support during challenging or difficult times.

  • Provided patients with assistance in completing daily tasks, reducing daily burden on family members.
  • * I made the not totally difficult, but upsetting and disappointing decision to leave my position in home health care (and return to facilities) due to an incident that compromised my comfort and safety. One evening, a male patient crossed professional boundaries, leading to inappropriate physical contact. I reported the incident to the office who sent me to the police, who urged filing charges. However, I chose not to pursue this due to my concern for the patient’s health status which would have required him to be transported to the courthouse 45 minutes away etc. and it was just easier in my eyes to just leave and let all heads be aware for future hires. Ultimately, I realized that I could no longer work alone in such an isolated environment overnight with someone who could be a threat to my safety. This experience reinforced my commitment to maintaining a safe and professional atmosphere in patient care.*

  • Documented patient information and care activities in electronic health record.
  • *I resigned from my position at the long-term care facility due to unethical medication practices encouraged by the facility director. After raising my concerns, I collaborated with the facility nurse to report these issues to state authorities. Unfortunately, both of us faced “pressure” to resign before the state could intervene. During this process, I was anngrily annd verbally instructed on exactly what to include in my resignation letter word for word and was “compelled” to sign it before leaving. Despite the termination of the facility director, Georgia Burowsky, I chose not to return due to the continued employment of every single other individual involved in these practices. This experience reinforced my commitment to maintaining ethical standards in patient care treating each individual with respect and as though they were my own family. I believe that “medication sharing” is not only illegal but also morally unacceptable. There were safer alternatives, such as contacting the pharmacy for emergency refills. Furthermore, the facility faced significant staffing challenges, with only two caregivers assigned to over 40 residents, leading to unsafe conditions. I consistently reported incidents, but these reports were not addressed, underscoring the need for accountability and transparency in patient care. This is by the way, is the facility the laundry cart incident took place at that was mentioned in my recommendation letter and other places in this apprenticeship application process.*

Caregiver and Medication Aide

  • Ensured compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and standards governing home health care services.
  • Performed light housekeeping tasks related to the client's care such as laundry and changing linens.
  • Respected the rights of each individual client while maintaining confidentiality of all personal information.

  • Administered medications to clients/residents/patients on the NOC shift, including those on hospice actively passing.
  • * I resigned from my position after repeatedly reporting instances of abusive behavior by a male caregiver, which included physical aggression and verbal hostility towards patients. Despite my efforts to address these concerns, no action was taken to rectify the situation over several months. As I was pursuing a nursing career, I felt it was essential to maintain my professional integrity and reputation. I documented my reasons for leaving in my resignation letter to highlight the serious nature of the issues encountered. Audrey the ED had been fired (yes same one from 2018 who they had rehired and then who called me) and was replaced by a young girl named Savanah who had a crush on the specific male caregiver who was abusing residents/patients.*
