I started as a graduate nurse on a med/surg unit, after about 5 months I transferred to the surgical/PEDs unit and worked there for about 6 months. When a day shift position came open I transferred back to the med/surg unit for about a year. I then transferred to the L&D/OB/NBN unit and have been there about 17 years, during which time I cross trained in the ER and worked as needed for about a year.

• Provided education on labor processes and pain management options.
• Provided postpartum care for new mothers, including assessments, education and counseling.
• Reviewed and tracked progress of mothers in labor, interpreted fetal heart monitor and informed delivering physician of status.
• Identified complications during labor or delivery requiring medical attention or intervention.
• Took vital signs of patients including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation levels.
• Conducted postpartum evaluations to ensure health and well-being of mother and baby.
• Provided emotional support and counseling to patients and families throughout the childbirth process.
• Initiated breastfeeding techniques upon request from mother and family member.
• Administered medications as ordered by physicians according to established policies and procedures.
• Monitored fetal heart rate patterns using electronic fetal monitoring equipment.
• Assisted in the delivery of newborns, providing guidance and support to mothers during labor and delivery.
• Trained new nursing staff on labor and delivery protocols and procedures.
• Documented patient information accurately in electronic health records systems.
