Alterations & More/Shade America
Bowdon, Ga
02.2017 - 09.2025
  • Originally brought in to sew industrial shades. The owner died, and I helped her husband keep the business open by taking orders, drawing the shades, figuring and ordering fabric, cutting the shades out on the floor, sewing the shades, and shipping them out. Great at multitasking with different companies and different types of orders to fill, as well as keeping up with production and what was going out. Great Microsoft office skills, and pay was 22.50 hr. (Plus monthly bonus from the owner anywhere from $1,000-$2500 a month)
  • Please see achievements listed below.
  • Can still use employer & main customer (now owner) as positive references as well

Accomplishments

Worked with my co-workers to cover Jacksonville jaguars football stadium. these were my biggest sails yet, and were 8 corner 100'x19' or so with different side lengths & angles between each pole. We have also made waterproof shades over 100' long for Jaxport cruise lines. After i was told the lady I had trained to help would be raised to the same pay as myself, I did give notice of leaving if they didn't see my point of view. Within a months time, I purchased myself an industrial Consew double needle lockstitch machine and started my journey.

Interests

I am married to my husband Bobby of almot 9 years We have one child still home, and shes almost 7 years old The house we live in was built by my grandfathers family in 1904, and sits on family land of over 90 acres We own cows, chickens, dogs and ducks We both love to hunt deer, go fishing and do pretty much anything outdoors He operates heavy equipment at a rock quarry for Vulcan

When Shelby passed away, there was nobody there that could even tell you where we got fabric from, let alone make a shade Donnie was goin to lock the doors up and sell the building, but I stepped up and kept us going for the next 6 years Do you know how hard it is to find anyone willing to learn and work? I tried several different people before I made the sacrifice for my family and got my husband to leave his job to work with me He took a major pay cut to do this, but he knew it was my only chance of getting the work done There were more than one occasion in which we done so This is another reason why I didn't see myself as equal to someone I trained to help No one had went above and beyond to pour their entire life in that place, so I didn't see anyone besides Donne who should be on the same pay scale And that was what led to my decision of standing up for myself and my worth Dedicated was an understatement of what I was to both Donnie and our main customer, Muller Otto
