  • The job of the College and Career Center Technician is done for the purposes of serving as an extension of, and support for, counseling department services, to provide guidance to students, staff, and others to help develop relevant skills and knowledge bases for post-secondary planning, career exploration, and specialized program information to prepare students for global success.
  • Train, coordinate, and monitor the work of student aides and college assistants.
  • Provides students, staff, and parents with information on career and/or post-high-school educational opportunities; administers and interprets career assessment tools and job placement materials; plans on-site presentations by college, trade school, and/or career representatives; and manages ongoing department programs and resources.
  • Orients students, teachers, and others on the use, operations, procedures, and resources of the College and Career Center.
  • Acts as a major resource person for information on post high school planning to include public and private universities, community college, career tech Ed School, and branches of military service.
  • Provides career information, job-finding resources, and specialized programs to students, teachers, counselors, and other appropriate parties.
  • Facilitates the use of College and Career Center; Assists and teaches college and career center users how to research specific information requests.
  • Maintain/Prepare various manual and/or electronic lists, records, reports, and resources including, but not limited to reference letters, scholarship applications, ASVAB scores, official career center website, brochures, IPADS, MacBooks, SmartTV, software, online applications, college catalogues, marketing materials, and web site locations, etc.
  • Assists College and Career Center users in the use of media software programs such as: Office 365 (outlook, Word, Excel, One Drive, Forms, Teams, Power Point, One Note etc) Google Drive, Prezi etc.
  • Maintains updated information and appropriate inventories of literature related to post-high school planning, and financial aid.
  • Maintains and updates the College and Career Center website within the school site webpage.
  • Research educational and/or career opportunities to provide students with up-to-date information on educational and/or career opportunities, maintaining material on all marketable platforms.
  • Promotes and publicize College and Career Center activities to stakeholders in the school community using the following means: website, and other district media such as Parent Square, Peachjar, email, social media, and marquees, posts bulletins and posters, distributes pamphlets and flyers and prepares bulletin boards and displays as appropriate.
  • Maintains a calendar of events related to the college and career center.
  • Receives, processes, verifies, and maintains a Work permit requests and entertainment permit requests, prepares valid work permit through licensed work permit software, and submits to the appropriate site designee for signature and approval and distributes back to the student.
  • Administers College and Career inventory and aptitude tests such as the ASVAB and other assessments.
  • Contacts and schedules speakers for presentations; maintains and updates speaker list and maintains relationships with community partners.
  • Acts as the liaison for all Military Recruiters assigned to the site.
  • Solicit/Travel to acquire information and/or materials from colleges and other organizations for the purpose of enhancing the Career Center reference collection and providing additional resources for students, parents, and staff.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops, and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remain knowledgeable of program guidelines.
  • Conducts workshops and presentations for the purpose of providing information and skills such as: College application workshops, FAFSA/Dream act workshops, scholarship application workshops, resume writing workshops, mock job interview workshops.
  • Assists students, staff and parents with various applications such as: CSU and UC Apply, Common App, FAFSA, Dream Act, etc.
  • Maintains an active list of Community service opportunities and signups for students that is published at site and on various media.
  • Acts as the scholarship coordinator for assigned site. Serves as liaison for scholarship committees and opportunities.
