I graduated from Grand Canyon University in December of 2020 and have long endeavored to work in the addiction and substance use disorders field. I have personal experience in overcoming an addiction to heroin/opioids, with twelve years of sobriety. After being a part of the problem, I now strive to be a part of the solution by helping others still in the throes of their addiction. While I am a fairly recent graduate, I have worked as a Certified Nurse's Assistant in the late 1990s-early 2001 and at the Shapiro Developmental State Hospital in South Suburban Chicago as a Mental Health Technician from 2003-2006; moreover, my life experience and the counseling curriculum at GCU have also been instrumental in developing a high-stress tolerance, the ability to easily empathize with clients, build a good rapport, share past-relevant-success, provide guidance to family members, and to spread awareness among the community to abate erroneous stigmas associated with mental illness.
