I'm a passionate, creative educator with extensive experience at San Bernardino City Unified School District, excelling in student assessment and project-based learning. Throughout my past experiences, I've proven the ability to foster positive relationships, implement effective classroom management strategies and systems, enhanced student engagement and achievement. I remain committed to professional development and innovative teaching practices that empower diverse learners and improve myself.
As an induction mentor I've led a probationary, new teacher through the cycle of clearing their teaching credential by engaging in PTRA cycles, observations, ongoing reflection, goal setting, and any additional needs. This opportunity has allowed me to further understand the CSTPs and the evaluation cycle, constructive feedback from observations, arranging meetings with agendas, and collaboration and communication.
At North Park Elementary, I've taught three years in GATE and accelerated fifth grade and fourth grade magnet program. Throughout these past three years, I've created lesson plans to challenge students' understanding while correlating with state curriculum standards and devising educational programs to meet educational objectives. I work hard to establish a positive classroom environment through effective classroom management strategies, fostering respect and cooperation among students, through collaborative projects, games, class spirit days, and PBIS techniques. Additionally, I continually strive to evaluate and assess student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback, have students reflect on data to create goals, and adapt teaching methods accordingly. My role also allows me to establish open communication and positive relationships with students, parents, peers, and administrative staff.
Throughout 2016 to 2023, I collaboratively tutored students ranging from first through tenth grade to complete homework assignments, identify opportunity for growth skills, and corrected misdirections and misconceptions. Additionally, I worked with parents to discuss student progress, address concerns, and bridge the communication gap between the family and the school, while also empowered students with essential study skills, such as note-taking and test preparation strategies.
As a third grade teacher, I gained experience as an in-person teacher post COVID distant learning with a variety of learners, such as a new comer to the US, students with learning disabilities, an accelerated learner, and a student born under the influence of drugs and alcohol. At this site I worked closely with the grade-level team to evaluate student data and development. At my time here, I learned more about scaffolding, centers to meet diverse needs, more about implementing SEL practices and activities, and administering benchmarks and the CAASPP.
At RISE I began the school year with first and third graders; but became soley a first grade teacher in November. Due to COVID-19, this year was taught through distance learning, utilizing Google Classroom, Google Meets, and monthly grab-and-goes. Throughout the year, I designed and implemented project based and unit based assignments to deepen student understanding the CA state standards. I prioritized building relationships with students by using some meeting time ti discuss the individual students' interest, mailing letters home to students, and fostering student creativity by creating open projects such as paper bag puppets and Flipgrid videos.
Beginning as a seasonal employee, I worked in several departments. While organizing the floor and dressing rooms, I'd assist customers with questions. This allowed me the opportunity to practice keeping organization in a constantly moving environment, practice multitasking, and flexibility. At registers I answered questions and assisted customers, allowing me the opportunity to strengthen my communication skills and clarity.
Aa a student intern, I assisted teacher with preparing classroom assessments, pulled small groups of students to emphasize classroom curriculum, and assisted with administering in-class assessments in kindergarten through sixth grade. In 2017, I led a CELDT tutoring group that pulled small groups of ELL students and emphasized ELA materials that they'd need to potentially reclassify. In the 2017-2018 school year I was assistant director to the school play and in 2018-2019 I was the sole director of the school play. Throughout my time here, I built professional relationships with colleagues at all levels within the organization strengthening interpersonal communication skills during my internship experience.
