In order to create an encouraging learning environment for students while their regular Teacher or
instructional aide will need to effectively manage, instruct, or support the class from roll call through to
tidying up the classroom after the students have left. Some of the Building Substitute’s duties and
responsibilities include:
● Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning
experience for students
● Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and
maintain a positive learning environment
● Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
● Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in
the cafeteria
● Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
● Performs related duties as required

• Th Grade
• Plan and teach all units of 4th grade curriculum that includes CKLA, and Iready math
• Assume full teaching responsibilities for 24 students, 6 with an learning disability, 2 behavioral monitored students, 2 English Language Learners and 1 TAG student
• Work in small groups for Math and Reading
• Building relationships with students' families by attending parent conferences
• Supervised morning recess and after school pick-up
• Utilize effective classroom management, positive behavior discipline strategies, modeled appropriate behavior and developing an routine
• Assess student learning through assignments, quizzes, and tests

• 2nd Grade
• Plan and teach all units of 2nd grade curriculum that includes CKLA, and Iready math
• Assume full teaching responsibility for 21 students, 3 with a learning disability and 6
• English language learners
• Work in small group for Math, Reading and Writing
• Communicating with parents through the Math, and CKLA skills newsletter
• Supervises daily recess, after school for pick up and Tuesday morning duty
• Utilize effective classroom management, positive discipline strategies and modeled appropriate classroom behavior
• Assess students learning through the use of quizzes, tests, class work and projects
