STEPHEN COLMAN

Serves as the Military Science Instructor for a Cadet Command SROTC Program consisting of 150 Cadets. Performs duties as the Military Science and Leadership III adviser and instructor for 47 Cadets. Responsible for the oversight and training for all assigned Cadets on pre-commissioning tasks; coaches, teaches, and mentors all Cadets to assist them in reaching their academic and ROTC training goals. Advises the Professor of Military Science on MS III training, ammunition forecasting, operations, and Color Guard events.

• Reviewed program materials and coordinated updates to keep department materials relevant and accurate.
• Train and mentor members of the Austin Peay Ranger Challenge team. Have placed in the Brigade level competition7 years in a row, qualifing to represent the brigade at the annual Sandhurst competition at West Point.

Serve as the Senior Noncommisioned Officer for a Cadet Command detachment consisting of seven Cadre and over 100 Cadets. Develop and monitor initiatives in areas of training, administration, logistics and recruiting/marketing. Act as a role model and mentor for Cadets.

• Identified training needs, planned and conducted several field training exercises to prepare Cadets for successful completion of Cadet Summer Training
• Provided guidance and advice to Cadets in leadership positions, allowing the organization to maintain continuity from semester to semester
• Developed systems to ensure deadlines for Cadre and Cadet actions are met and actions are completed to published standards

Provided technical / tactical guidance and professional support to subordinate units within a 500+ Soldier Infantry Battalion. Responsible for giving recommendations to superiors on accomplishment of their duties in support of mission and training success.

• Developed standard operating procedures to ensure organization met all regulatory guidance in relation to mission readiness
• Increased proficiency within the organization by properly identifying and slotting personel for developmental training
• Facilitated the smooth deployment of 175 personnel and their equipment from Ft. Campbell to Iraq

Maintained 100% accountability for the daily operations, administration, professional development, training, health and morale of 186 assigned personnel.

• Conducted monthly professional development that supported the professional growth of subordinate personnel; tracked training, managed resources and collaborated with leaders throughout the organization to determine training needs
• Managed subordinate population within the organization in areas of talent management, training, career progression and readiness; ensured members of the organization were able to accomplish organizational goals and mission
• Emphasized safety and security during training exercises; reduced risk and accident related injuries
• Edited and prepared operations and training plans; helped develop unit standard operating procedures used in training based off appropriate doctrine

• Instituted a demanding, effective physical training program to assess and increase the physical capabilities of students who desired to attend follow-on training
• Responsible for ensuring course materials were relevant and within published doctrine; recommended changes to doctrine when necessary
• Provided oversight on the organizations HAZMAT program and made necessary changes ensuring guidelines were followed and organization maintained accreditation
