Summary

  • Since retirement in 2014 from DoD service, I have maintained currency in Ukrainian and Russian studies and current events, especially the more recent Russo-Ukrainian war. I have continued in-depth UNCLASS research and analysis in Ukrainian politics and military and in Russian Federation politics and military. On an almost daily basis I interact informally with two former senior DIA analysts and a retired university professor all former colleagues. I also attend professional international academic conferences such as the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) and have contact with academic specialists in Ukrainian and Russian studies to maintain subject matter currency.
  • Based upon more than three decades of service as a Senior GS Intelligence analyst and twenty years as an Military Intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserves, I have two complimentary areas of expertise. One is a deep institutional knowledge of Ukrainian and Russian history, politics and military, Another is the ability to identify adversarial exploitable psychological, societal, governmental and military vulnerabilities. I also have significant knowledge of Russian strategic disinformation operations directed at the U.S. and its allies. I base this on more than three decades of service with the 4th Psychological Operations Group (ABN), 1st Special Forces Command.
  • In 2014 I worked in the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine on a special project. When I arrived burning tires were still smoking on Maidan Square and the Russians had just illegally annexed Crimea.
  • I have traveled extensively in the former Soviet Union to include Kazakhstan. In the Russian Federation: Moscow and St. Petersburg. Also extensive travel in the Baltic Republics: Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and in Finland. Numerous TDYs to EUCOM/SOCEUR (Stuttgart, Germany) and conferences at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
