I started my career in the petroleum refining industry 34 years ago. I worked in mechanical and from there was moved to refinery laboratory testing for API specifications and quality control. For the next 14 years I worked in process operations on a full time basis. During this time a total of approximately five years was spent on special projects with responsibilities including project coordinator, PSM implementation, new procedure writing, and developing and teaching mandatory operations training ranging from employees with little or no experience to seasoned top operators. With safety as a priority I served for six years on a voluntary basis as the head of our refinery Safety Behavioral Emphasis Team. Being a state certified emergency medical technician prior to entering my field of profession, has bolstered my personal commitment concerning the safety of all. For 11 years I served as a member of the Conoco Emergency Response Team which provided me with annual training at various universities and academies.
