I am currently about 75% complete with my Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification at UC San Diego (have not completed the practicum yet). I have completed the CCACP RADT Course. I am also currently employed part-time by UC San Diego supporting an initiative to promote first responder wellness including those struggling with Substance Use Disorder.
I was medically retired in 2022 after a 22 year career as a police officer in San Mateo County. My injuries included Post Traumatic Stress Injury and associated with that, Substance Use Disorder. I have been in recovery for two and a half years.
In addition to working as a patrol officer, my specialty assignments during my career included Juvenile Special Victims Detective, School Resource Officer, and Crisis/Hostage Negotiator. I spent my entire career working with at-risk youth because that was my passion.
Prior to being a police officer, I was an elementary school teacher and taught grades two, three, and four in Hayward, CA, San Mateo, CA, and Queretaro, Mexico. I am bilingual (Spanish) and lived in Mexico for over a year where I taught fourth grade in a dual immersion school.
I live in Rocklin with my wife, Michelle, and our two daughters ages 14 and 17. I am also a substitute teacher in the Rocklin Unified School District working in the middle schools and high schools where kids attend.
