Assigned a fleet of tug and crude oil barges operating in the Gulf of Mexico. Sole port engineer from Corpus Christie, TX to New Orleans, LA. Responsibilities included inspecting vessels, finding deficiencies and procuring subcontractors and materials to enable repairs. Created contracts for shipyard availabilities along with cost estimates for repairs. Collected estimates from repair facilities and assisted manager with selecting winning bid and continuing negotiations throughout contract period. Interfaced with ABS and USCG to ensure repairs fell within guidelines and rules. As the local face of the company, often performed as a liaison between crewmembers and the home office in New York. Two cutters assigned as Engineering Petty Officer, which is the enlisted version of an Engineering Officer. Served as a Government Contracting Representative during numerous shipyard availabilities. Attended the Naval Post Graduate course for Government Contracting. Served as the Chief of Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical division from 2008 - 2011 for a program establishing and overseeing a Government contract for the acquisition and building of a new line of CG Cutters worth $400 million. While serving as a Chief Petty Officer, was hand selected by the Captain of a cutter to serve as the Command Chief. The Command Chief was the direct liaison between the enlisted personnel and the Command. Duties included resolving issues both disciplinary and non disciplinary. Attended both leadership schools at the Chief Petty Officers Academy as well as Chief Warrant Officers Academy. Instructed on public speaking, conflict resolution, effective leadership skills, and team building.
While serving on board seven of eight cutters, was assigned to the Damage Control training teams (DCTT) as well as the Engineering Control training teams (ECTT). A
Trained and instructed crew members on proper damage control procedures. Attended numerous Machinery Technician resident courses as well as NACE Lvl 2 Coating inspector, Hobart weld inspector, NDT inspection, and several ABS courses.
